Hi, we're Data Processing & Statistics-Ambrose Ali University Class of 1999
About Us
In the fall of 1996, the Diploma in Data Processing and Statistics program was founded as a pioneering initiative under the leadership of Dr. Akpome, Head of the Mathematics Department, with Dr. Bayo Momodu as the program coordinator. The program’s inaugural class commenced in January 1997, held after regular hours due to space constraints. At its inception, the program had little recognition, but its potential was undeniable.
The Class of 1999 became the program’s first graduates, serving as the trailblazers whose resilience and determination would shape its legacy. Their success proved to be the foundation upon which the program flourished, paving the way for the introduction of additional diploma programs—such as Computer Science—within the Faculty of Natural Sciences (FNS). Their perseverance contributed to the eventual establishment of full-degree programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Many early graduates transitioned seamlessly into these degree programs, continuing their academic and professional journeys.
We honor the remarkable contributions of our foundational lecturers, whose dedication and mentorship were instrumental in shaping the program’s success. Among them were Dr. Akpome, Dr. Charles Oniawa, Dr. Okoro, Dr. Ikpotokin, Dr. Bayo Momodu, Mr. Abhulimen (Probabilities and Statistics), Mr. Aigbeboh, Mr. Emmanuel Enahoro, Ms. Judith, and many others whose impact cannot be overstated.
The journey of the Class of 1999 was marked by perseverance, unity, and an unwavering commitment to academic excellence. As the first cohort to navigate this uncharted path, they faced numerous challenges, yet their shared determination transformed adversity into achievement. Their struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs solidified a bond that extended far beyond the classroom.
Against all odds, the Class of 1999 emerged as the pioneers and pillars of excellence for the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The rapid growth of the Statistics and Computer Science departments—both direct outcomes of the Diploma in Data Processing and Statistics—earned widespread recognition and attracted an increasing number of students to Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
Today, members of the Class of 1999 have made their mark across the globe, residing in various countries while maintaining the unity that once saw them through their university years. Beyond nostalgia, this network remains active and engaged, fostering professional collaboration, supporting social causes, and driving economic empowerment in our communities. We are committed to preserving the enduring bond that connects us and to leveraging our collective strength to make a positive impact.
